2026.3 Challenge - Springtime for Brendan

Challenge 2026.3 Springtime

Just a short story - Brendan has written a poem about springtime!

Springtime for Brendan

Hello. I suspect this will be a brief post; my current project is taking up my time. Whilst it should conclude soon so I'll be less reliant on Darcy and Cecile, I simply had to take time to share the following with you.

2026 - Challenge 2, February Celebrations

Hi everyone!

This is my entry for the second challenge for this year, "February Celebrations".

Just a simple picture this time, but I hope you'll like it!

 ---

Some Saturday mornings, when Teri Chocolate wakes up in a good mood, she can be hearing gently humming a song in the kitchen. On those days, Freya and Coco always rush downstairs without even changing out of their sleep clothes, because they know it's Pancake Day!

Special mention goes to the lovely hand-made marmalade jars Cutata sent me! Love them, thank you so much my friend!

Hope you liked my entry, even if it wasn't a full story.

Have a wonderful day!

Challenge response: Spring

My first post on any blog! Please excuse any issues with it...

Here's my response to the Spring Creative Challenge

Lily has a new dress covered in embroidered tulips and daffodils - just right for Spring!

I also took inspiration from daffodils for the second project where I created a play place for my tiny Sylvanians. The Husky baby sitting in it seems to be happy!
As is often the case these projects are made of felt and thread. Apologies for the shadows in the photos - wanted to use the spring sunshine...

2026 - Challenge 1, Winter

Hi everyone!

I just made a post in my blog with some pictures for the "Winter" prompt. Hope you enjoy it!

Map of Mellowdene

I've been working on this a while and, whilst it will undoubtedly be updated as new businesses feature in my stories, it is at a relatively stable point to share. The blank areas might need some woodland or minor agricultural graphical enhancement but I'll see how that goes.

I've allocated village addresses to all my villagers! Well, those that actually live in the village. Those out in the county (e.g. those at Timbertop Farm, Blackberry Orchards, Buttercup Dalry, the Cornflower family) and those in Upper Mellowdene are excluded (but they know where they are).

To tie in with the map, on my blog I've created a "Residences" tab that documents where my villagers live. There are empty houses for newcomers to inhabit (or to allow critters to move house) and buildings for the aforementioned future businesses and retail outlets.

It's taken a while to get this far. Hopefully I've caught all the throwaway lines in my stories that identify families as neighbours and that will be reflected in their addresses. If you spot any inconsistencies then please let me know. House moves are very efficient in Mellowdene!

Darcy and the Pancake Toss - Challenge 2026.2

Challenge 2026.2 February Celebrations

When trying to think of a February celebration I decided to check the official Sylvanian birthdays for the month. I had a lucky find!

Darcy and the Pancake Toss

I've been a little busy these past few weeks and I've neglected doing any writing for Darcy. Shame on me. My darling Cecile decided to help me.

Note for Contributors - the Chat Room

Skylark highlighted an issue with the capabilities of the Sylvanarium. Being a public blog, there wasn't a facility for contributors to privately discuss technical issues - or just generally chat. A draft post was an inventive idea for a contributor to communicate with the admin (i.e. me - Rory) but we needed something more versatile.

Most of you are now aware of the companion blog I created purely for that purpose. It is our "chat room". A further invitation was sent to allow admission.

sylvanchat.blogspot.com is only accessible for contributors/authors.

I modified the format of both blogs to include a link at the top right of the screen. This should make it easier to switch between the two.

If you haven't already done so, please respond to the invitation to allow you access to the chat room. If you cannot find the invitation, please comment below so that I can resend it.

Creative Challenge 2026 - March Challenge: Springtime!

Time flies - today, it's March, 7th, already - and high time for a new Creative Challenge called

Springtime!

Spring has come to your part of Sylvania and every city and village are buzzing with life more than ever... sports, gardening, meeting friends in nature or just going out for a walk and enjoying the first beams of sunshine  are on their 'agenda', now. Everyone is putting his/her winter gear aside and dressing up in colourful outfits for warmer temperatures...

Think of all kinds of activities (no matter, if indoors or outdoors) or dress your Sylvanian friends in bright happy colours to celebrate the New Beginning Of Nature... - Whatever idea you'll go for ...

Have fun!

Pancakes for Pancake Day! (February Celebration Challenge) by H Thistlethorn

Challenge 2: February Celebrations (by H Thistlethorn)

Here I am replying to my own challenge... It's probably the last one due to the closure date for the forum

Pancakes for Pancake Day!

With 17.2.26 being Pancake Day several family meals had pancakes as pudding.

The Grande family bought a special treat from a café to enjoy.

Banana and toffee sauce pancakes! Yum Dad!

Miranda Maple and Belinda Brighteyes made pancakes to eat with fruit (Alfie was excited!)

The Caramel family shared a dish of Dutch pancakes with chocolate sauce...

Everyone had a lovely time eating pancakes!

(I made the pancakes for the Maple house, the fruit is a mini-verse Fill-the-fridge item and the rest of the pancakes are dolls house minis)

CHALLENGE 2026-2 February Celebrations

Set by H Thistlethorn

February's Challenge theme is mine to choose! I've started it a little later as the thread was put up a little later.

My theme is

February Celebrations

This could mean: the Winter Olympics (8-22nd), Superbowl (8th), Valentines (14th), Pancake Day (17th), Chinese New Year (starts 17th), Carnival (13-18th)... or celebrate something else that is meaningful to you that falls in February (someone's birthday or wedding for example)

Tell a story, show your Sylvanians celebrating, create items for a celebration theme...

Have fun, enjoy creating!

Primrose Evergreen's Winter Forecast (Winter Challenge)

I've already written how Mellowdene village avoids the worst weather - however, the deeper one travels into the county, the less protection there is against the elements. What would Mellowdenians do about that? That was the inspiration for the story.

Being numerous outdoor locations I've had to do some photo-editing. The story gave me a chance to use a couple of my Bluey vehicles - which was fun.

Oh, one last point - one of the reasons I started my blog was so that I could contribute to the forum. I'm delighted to see that the number of views has just passed 100,000. Thank you to all of you who contributed to that count!

Primrose Evergreen's Winter Forecast

Hello! It's Darcy again. Back at work and quite happy how business has been handled during my extended Christmas break. I hadn't decided what to write for you but inspiration came after a visit from Primrose Evergreen

Primrose Evergreen is Mellowdene's weather forecaster. I understand she's always had an affinity for meteorological predictions but that has been honed over her life so that her accuracy is uncanny. She regularly travels to Upper Mellowdene to observe Coldmount Peak and records movements of ice particles whirling about the pinnacle. She says this helps her long-range forecasts. I've no reason to dispute that.

Wee Explorers (Winter challenge) by H Thistlethorn

Winter challenge: Wee Explorers

The Wee Explorers had a meeting to talk about the wildlife found in winter and ways to help them survive.

Welcome Everyone to Wee Explorers

Algernon talked about water and how important it is for birds to have access to it, plus the sorts of food that should be given. There's an annual bird count this time of year and so Algernon wanted to give the boys the info so they could take part.

There's also some moths flying through the winter so he also told them about those. Mammals also came up in the talking as some come closer to houses in winter than other times of year.

CHALLENGE 2026-1 Winter

 Set by Florence Holiday

Initially, my dear friend H Thistlethorn and me had planned to take over the Creative Challenges from Terra, in case she did't want to suggest more forum topics in 2026.

My first suggestion for the month of January was (logically):

Winter

Think of snowy fun, cosy fireplaces, hot drinks and tasty treats, fun family reunions ... and silent moments in nature. Let your creativity spread its wings - and have fun as long as this forum will last...

Welcome to the Sylvanian Creation Hub!

Welcome to the Sylvanarium, a place where we can bask in our joy of creating content related to Sylvanian Families and Calico Critters. Invited friends will be able to share their creations & information and provide links to their own blogs/sites. Other Sylvanian fans will be free to comment.

I am Rory Redmayne and I am the administrator of this blog. After some initial setup posts here I don't expect to create much content myself. That is for those aforementioned friends to do. The data will be stored under my Google account. As we are of a more modest number, storage space should not be an issue in the short term.

Maybe another forum is a longer term aim and we can discuss that before it becomes an issue. Nevertheless, it is worth being mindful of the size of pics you upload. Large hi-resolution pics aren't needed for small screen viewing.

I should briefly remind you that all content you post here is visible to the public, but you are nice people and Sylvanians are family friendly. As such, let us adopt Sylvanian values when creating posts that anyone may read.

So. What do we do here? Sylvanian stuff, obviously, with the kind natures and attitudes that engenders, but what specifically? That is to be discussed, but one element will continue as begun on the Sylvanian Families Collectors' Forum. That of the popular Creative Challenges. I have already taken it upon myself to transfer the initial 2026 challenge posts onto the Sylvanarium.

It was an instructive process as it highlighted something we all need to remember: the format of a blog is not the format of a forum. We don't have individual threads to organise our posts. Fortunately we have something called "labels" that we can use to filter our posts so that we see only what we want to see.

At the top of this blog page you will see a tab marked "Challenge" which explains how I used labels to allow a viewer to
  1. only see Challenge related posts
  2. see a list of all Challenges without the responses
  3. see everything relating to a particular Challenge.
We can do something similar so that (for example) we can filter our view to only see posts relating to a particular village. Tagging posts with labels like Mellowdene, Purrchester, Arcfield, Sweetberry, Macadamia etc will allow us to home in to stories set in these locations. Labels like New2026 could allow us to find posts relating to new Sylvanian products for that year. I'm sure you can devise other examples.

A little foresight will make the Sylvanarium easier to navigate. Of course, labels can be added retrospectively if need be. In the early days I will probably add omitted labels but I expect contributors will soon get the hang of things.

The whole point is to give our little community a place to continue our hobby, share our creations so that they can be easily found and enjoyed, and keep in touch.

Have fun!
Hugs from Rory.
